Berkeley County water rates could go up

February 1st, 2013

The Berkeley County Public Service Water District filed a petition with the West Virginia Public Service Commission requesting an increase in its water rates by a total o 19.5%

Of the 19.5 percent increase, the District is requesting emergency interim relief in the amount of 5%. This emergency interim relief is requested in order for the District to maintain the minimum debt ratios as requested by its creditors in the form of restrictive covenants in existing lending agreements and bond documents.

Should the 5% increase be granted, the typical minimum bill would go from $17.90 to $18.80. For 4500 gallons of water, the bill would go from $32.40 to $34.02.

Anyone desiring to file a protest or motion to intervene should file a written protest or motion to intervene with the WVPSC by March 13, 2013 to The Secretary, Public Service Commission of West Virginia, P.O. Box 812, Charleston, WV 25323.
