Hedgesville Wins Region 2 Semifinal

The Hedgesville Eagles have advanced to the Region 2 Championship game with a semifinal win at Jefferson on Monday night 7-1. The Eagles scored 2 in the 1st to open the scoring, but the Cougars responded with a run in the bottom of the 1st. That would be all for Jefferson as Cody Butts shut them down throwing a complete game 3-hitter retiring the last 10 batters. Meanwhile, Hedgesville added single runs in the 2nd and 3rd and then 3 runs in the 7th including a solo home run from Daniel Heleine, his 15th on the year. Jefferson closes the season at 22-13, while the 26-7 Eagles move on to host the Hampshire Trojans (11-1 winners over Buckhannon Upshur) in the Region 2 Final on Wednesday at 6:30pm. Jefferson Wins Section One Championship

The Jefferson Cougars won the AAA Region 2, Section 1 baseball championship on Saturday with a 4-0 win over the Washington Patriots. Jefferson got a complete game effort from Blake Johnson, who allowed only two hits with 5 strikeouts and 5 walks. Andrew King provided the offensive punch with 2 hits and 3 RBI. Washington finishes the season at 11-17. Jefferson is now 22-12. The Cougars will host the Hedgesville Eagles (25-7) in the Regional Semifinals on Monday at 6:30pm. Our pregame begins at 6:10.

Hedgesville Wins Sectional Baseball Title

For the first time since 1980, the Hedgesville Eagles have hoisted a Sectional baseball trophy after defeating the Musselman Applemen 11-8 on Thursday. The Eagles opened the game with 4 runs in the top of the 1st including a 2-run home run from Daniel Heleine. Hedgesville led 5-0 before Musselman scored 3 in the 4th to get right back in it. However, Hedgesville plated 5 runs in the 6th for an 11-3 lead, and then held on for the win. Musselman ends their season at 21-13, while Hedgesville (25-7) moves on to Monday’s Regional Semifinal against either Jefferson or Washington. We’ll have the broadcast here. Hedgesville Takes Game One From Musselman

The Hedgesville Eagles flashed the leather and brought out the bats to beat the Musselman Applemen 11-1 in 6 innings in the AAA Region2, Section 2 baseball tournament. Hedgesville robbed Musselman of several hits helping to save some runs from scoring. Then the Eagles pounded out 12-hits and scored 3 runs in the 1st, 2 in the 3rd, 4 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th for the mercy rule win. Jacob Whitmore homered to lead off the 6th for Musselman’s only run. Cody Butts got the complete game win for Hedgesville while adding 3 hits including a solo home run. Hedgesville (24-7) takes a one game to none lead in the best of three championship series with game two at Musselman (21-12) on Thursday, May 16th at 4pm. Our pregame at 3:40.

Hedgesville Eliminates Martinsburg In Section Play

The Hedgesville Eagles rode a 7 run 5th inning to a 12-7 win over the Martinsburg Bulldogs in game 2 of the AAA Region 2, Section 2 baseball tournament. It was a back and forth battle through the first three innings with the game tied at 5 going into the 5th. Martinsburg scored 2 in their final at-bat, but it wasn’t enough. The loss ends Martinsburg’s season at 16-17, while Hedgesville improves to 23-7. After being rained out Thursday and Friday, the Eagles will now host the Musselman Applemen (21-11) in game 1 of a best of 3 series on Saturday night at 7pm. Our pregame begins at 6:40.

Musselman Wins Sectional Opener

The Musselman Applemen held off the Martinsburg Bulldogs to win the opener of the Region 2, Section 2 baseball tournament on Monday 7-6. Musselman scored three in the 4th and 3 more in the 5th inning to open a 7-4 lead, but Martnsburg rallied to score 1 in the 6th and 2 in the 7th. The game tying run was at second when the final out was recorded. Darrin Zombro worked 5.1 innings with 6 strikeouts to earn the win. The Applemen are now 21-11, while the Bulldogs fall to 16-16. After being rained out on Tuesday, Martinsburg will face elimination at Hedgesville on Wednesday night, weather permitting. Game time is 7. Our per game at 6:40pm.

Meanwhile, Washington and Jefferson will play their best of three series this Thursday, Friday and Saturday for the Region 2, Section 1 Title. Jefferson will host games 1 and 3. Washington hosts game 2.

Dogs Win AAA Boy’s State Hoops Title

The Martinsburg Bulldogs have added the 2013 West Virginia State Class AAA Boy’s Basketball Championship to their trophy case beating Woodrow Wilson 57-52 in the title game. Donte “Buddha” Grantham led the way with 20 points and 17 rebounds. He was named to the All-Tournament Team along with teammates Jalen Lewis and Eugene German. Martinsburg finished the season at 26-2, and became the first team in WV to claim both the football and boy’s basketball championships in the same season. The team will hold a celebration with the community on Wednesday (3/20) at 6pm at the MHS Fieldhouse. We’ll broadcast it live on TalkRadio WRNR.

Dogs Win 3rd Straight Football Title

The Martinsburg Bulldogs became just the 2nd team in West Virginia AAA Football history to win 3 consecutive State Championships with a 38-14 win over Cabell-Midland on Saturday (12/1) afternoon. Justin “Cookie” Clinton hit Cedric Brown for two 1st quarter scores as the Bulldogs took a 14-0 lead. Trey Boyd added a pair of 2nd quarter scoring runs as Martinsburg opened a 28-7 halftime lead. In the 2nd half, Clinton ran for a score and Tyler Dehaven added a 48-yard field goal for the final margin of victory. Clinton was named the games Outstanding Player.
