Tazer incident at 167th

Around 12:15pm Monday, November 19th, a 50 year old man approached Air Force security at the West Gate of the Eastern West Virginia Regional Airport, home to the West Virginia Air National Guard’s 16th Airlift Wing.

LtCol Melissa Shade, chief of staff and public affairs officer of the 16th, tells WRNR News the man approached guards and said he wanted to see the airplanes.

Security guards noticed what later turned out to be a weapon. After he refused to cooperate, he was tazed twice by Air Force security, according to LtCol Shade, and turned over to Berkeley County sheriff’s deputies.

WRNR News learned he was transported to City Hospital of Martinsburg to have al least one of the prones removed from the back of his head.
