17 March 2016 Local Sports
For a second straight season the Martinsburg Bulldogs went to Charleston as the 5-seed in the AAA Boy’s State Basketball Tournament…for a second straight season they would face the 4-seed Woodrow Wilson…and for a second straight season the Dogs came up just short falling in the quarterfinal round match-up 69-58. Martinsburg went cold at the wrong time, missing their final 8 shots and being outscored 14-0 over the final 4-plus minutes. Rebounding was a problem as the Flying Eagles won the battle on the boards 54-26. Fouls were also a problem for Martinsburg with 3-players fouling out. The Dogs were called for 26 fouls sending Woodrow Wilson to the line 41 times (22-41). Meanwhile, Martinsburg was 7-12 from the line. Jessiya Villa led the way with 19 points, Jarrell Jones added 14, Devonte Redman and Chris McAboy scored 10 each. Martinsburg ends their season at 21-5.
