Martinsburg Returns to Wheeling Island and the Super 6

25 November 2017 Local Sports Uncategorized

For the 6th time in the last 8 years the Martinsburg Bulldogs will play for the West Virginia State Class AAA football championship. In front of a packed house at Cobourn Field on a beautiful late November Saturday (11.25) afternoon the Bulldogs scored on 5 consecutive 2nd half possessions to pull away from the Capital Cougars and collect a 49-28 win. The semifinal match-up was tied at 14-14 at the half, but the Martinsburg defense set the tone in the 3rd with a stop on the opening Capital possession and the offense took over from there. Quarterback Tyson Bagent completed his final 15 passes to finish 18 of 21 for 356 yards and 4 scores. His top target was Jarod Bowie, who had 8 receptions for 189 yards and 3 touchdowns. Dwayne Grantham added 132 yards and 2 scores on the ground. In all, Martinsburg tallied 556 total yards. Now 13-0, the Bulldogs will face a title game rematch with Spring Valley after the Timberwolves beat Huntington in the other semifinal 10-7.
